students will be given a ballet barre, actual ballet technique and a
ballet routine. The second half of class is Jazz. Students will be
given a Jazz warm up to increase strength and flexibility, actual
jazz technique and a jazz routine. Class is taught in a fun,
positive atmosphere by teachers who are adults with experience
teaching children. Optional technique color book available.

Ballet/Tap and Ballet/Jazz
E Classes
– E classes are by invitation only. They require a prerequisite of
at least one year of training at this studio. A recommendation form
from your dance teacher is required
before registration. E classes are accelerated and move very
quickly. E classes have been designed for GT and extremely bright
students who catch on quickly, are very focused, have above average
memorization skills, and above grade level reading skills. Teachers
have the option of using a written
technique workbook that corresponds with class. The first half of class
is Ballet; the second half is Tap (or Jazz). In each subject the
students will be given a warm up, real technique and a performance
routine. Even though two subjects are being taught within an hour,
these students learn quickly and this class performs routines that
are age appropriate in style but above grade level in memorization
skills. Students must be on time in order to take the class. Your
almost-perfect-attendance is mandatory in order to keep your place
in class. After a year of E classes, students in E classes move
easily into next year’s higher level E classes or company classes if
they desire frequent performance.
Ballet
- The students will be given a complete ballet barre, center floor
technique, ballet combinations across the floor and a ballet
performance routine at the end of class. This class will cover more
ballet technique than the combination classes which offer two
subjects in an hour. Having the entire hour for Ballet allows for
more advanced technique. A majority of the class time is spent
learning how to dance and on conditioning the body for ballet. A
short time at the end of class is spent on the routine which is an
ongoing project throughout the school year. We follow the classical
French ballet syllabus.
Ballet workbooks are available for students
entering 2nd grade and up.

Tap
–
Students are given a tap warm up, tap technique center floor and tap
combinations across the floor. A tap routine is also learned and
will be performed in recital. Students learn tap as well as rhythm
and music awareness. Quick memorization skills are helpful to tap
students.
Hip Hop – Hip Hop classes will include a hip hop warm up to increase
strength and flexibility, Funky hip hop technique center floor,
combinations across the floor and a funky hip hop routine displaying
the latest hip hop moves from leading dance conventions. Dress
appropriately and be on time. Bring a water bottle! (This is a good
class to bring a friend to as well!).
Lyrical
- Lyrical is a fluid dance form that is graceful and utilizes slow,
flowing movements. There are many different kinds of lyrical but the
generally accepted definition is that lyrical is a cross between
ballet and jazz. Lyrical incorporates some of the technique from
ballet and the freedom of movement and expression from jazz. Lyrical
Praise class (Saturdays) uses Christian praise music during class
and during performance. Lyrical Praise is for advanced dancers.
Contemporary Lyrical-Jazz incorporates contemporary music with or
without words. Contemporary Lyrical-Jazz is taught during the week
at the beginning/intermediate level and the intermediate/advanced
level. All lyrical classes have a full warm up at the beginning of
class as well as lyrical technique across the floor then a routine
during the last 10 minutes of class.
Pre-Pointe –
Pre-Pointe is designed to increase
strength and flexibility all over with special attention to
particular leg muscles, ankles and feet in preparation for Pointe
work. This class is done barefooted for the first half of the class.
Blocks and stretch bands are used to speed the progress while
acquiring strength and flexibility. Flat ballet shoes are required
for the end of the class as we work on alignment technique and
placement during turns. No recital routine is taught in this class.
Students may take this class only if they are registered for another
class in addition to the pre-pointe class. Students may take this
class one, two or three years consecutively before they are ready
for Pointe shoes.
